A New Collaborator – Great Springs Project
March 11, 2026

Great Springs Project is a nonprofit organization working in the San Antonio-Austin corridor to create a greenway of conserved land in Central Texas and build a contiguous hike-and-bike trail from the Alamo to the Texas Capitol by the Texas Bicentennial in 2036. This network of natural lands will connect four major springs in the region: San Antonio, Comal, San Marcos, and Barton Springs. Great Springs Project works to conserve an additional 50,000 acres of land to protect Central Texas’ water resources and the land that watersheds them, while providing greater access to the outdoors and recreational activities.
The GSP Mission is now a Texas Bill!
Signed into law on June 20, 2025, H.B. 4230, the Texas Bicentennial Trail Bill, establishes coordination by the General Land Office (GLO) and stakeholders across the region to create a network of hike and bike trails connecting the Alamo and State Capitol.
