Update: Geronimo & Alligator Creeks Fall Cleanup Canceled

Due to site conditions following all the rainfall we received last week, we made the difficult decision to cancel the Geronimo & Alligator Creeks Fall Cleanup Event. We will begin planning the spring cleanup soon and hope to see you all there!

In the meantime – if you’re interested in volunteering, the Dos Rios Watershed Cleanup event, hosted by City of New Braunfels, is taking place Tomorrow, October 10th!

Small but Mighty: Taking Steps to Protect Water Quality

Our ongoing Small but Mighty series introduces small action steps anyone could take to improve and protect their watershed. Achievable tasks produce meaningful results which can be multiplied at an individual and watershed scale, all to produce real, positive impacts on local water quality.

Step 1: Reduce Bacterial Contamination (April 2026 Newsletter)

Step 2: Reduce Nitrates Entering Waterway (July 2026 Newsletter)

Step 3: Reduce Hazardous Waste entering Waterways

Many common household products can become environmental hazards with improper storage, use, or disposal. Paints, pesticides, fertilizers, cleaning products, motor oil, batteries, and some electronics contain chemicals that can pollute waterways when washed down drains, poured onto the ground, or even thrown away with normal waste.

What can I do to help?

Mark your calendar for the next Hazardous Waste Collection – or Schedule your own!

New Braunfels & Comal County: On Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 8:00am to noon at City Hall, City of New Braunfels offers City and Comal County residents the opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste (such as chemicals, oil, and cleaners) safely. Check out the New Braunfels HHW event page for details.

Seguin: Residents of the City of Seguin with City garbage collection can schedule front porch Household Hazardous Waste collection every Monday. Visit the Seguin HHW webpage for more information.

Identify what items are considered Hazardous Waste

The quickest way to identify hazardous household waste is to check the product label. Words such as “Danger”, “Warning”, “Caution”, “Poison”, “Flammable”, or “Corrosive” often contain chemicals with special handling and disposal requirements. Never pour these products down drains, into septic systems, into storm sewers, or onto the ground.

Some items like used motor oil, fuel, or cleaning products may not be in their original labeled container, but still need to be disposed of in the proper way as Hazardous Waste. Clearly label any chemicals that have been transferred to other containers, and when in doubt – play it safe!

Store chemicals under cover

Keeping products in a garage, shed, or even in a sealed bin, can help prevent rainwater from contacting and transporting spills.
